The Dawn Kelly Overcomers Scholarship Award
The Dawn Kelly Overcomers Scholarship Award will provide a $500.00 scholarship award to assist children who have overcome extreme life challenges such as poverty, homelessness, grave health issues, domestic violence, or the death of a parent. The Recipient of the Dawn Kelly Overcomers Scholarship Award must be an upcoming 6th, 9th, or 12th grader or an undergraduate college student (this includes community college).
How to Apply
To apply for this scholarship award, complete the on-line application form on the Complete Woman Conference Website: www.thecompletwomansconference.com. (Note: The application form will be available July 1, 2017). Submit the application electronically with your essay attached to Michelle Kirkpatrick at firstname.lastname@example.org by February 28, 2018.
All application materials must be submitted by February 28th of each year beginning February 28, 2018. No applications will be accepted after this date.
Students are required to present a well written essay on the type of hardship they have experienced: poverty, homelessness, grave health issues, domestic violence, or the death of a parent. The essay must be typed using Times New Roman, 12 font and double spaced with at least a 2 inch margin top, bottom, left and right. The essay should be a minimum of 1 page but no more than 3 pages. The essay must include the following content:
Essay Title.Be creative.
A description of the hardship you experienced and how it has impacted your life.
Describe how you have overcome your hardship.
If you choose to write your essay on homelessness, poverty, or domestic violence describe what you can do to make sure, as an adult, you do not live in extreme poverty, become homeless, or become a victim of domestic violence. If you choose to write about a grave health issue(s) or the death of a parent, talk about the resources you used or that were made available to you that might help someone else to overcome these same challenges. In other words, what advice could you give them?
Share anything else you want to include in your essay to help the scholarship panel understand your plight better and how you have overcome or are overcoming it.
